sayit: Unless you live in a country that allows third gender identity on documents, a transgender female or male in that matter will only have their original birth gender on their ID, which is why this couple could get married. Gender identity and sexual orientation are 2 different things so I don't think it can be regarded as a heterosexual relationship (even though they are legally represented as a man and a woman who are legally bound in marriage), especially when the article expresses that both of them don't identify with the male gender.
